"You cannot swim for new horizons until you have courage to lose sight of the shore." William Faulkner
I love to swim, and spend quite a bit of time in water. For others that may swim, you know that swimming in a lap pool and swimming in the open ocean are two very different experiences. In a lap pool, the wall is in sight, and with a flip turn you can push off that wall back to the next. Also, the depth of the pool (not to mention visibility of what else is in the pool) is quite known. In the ocean, the further out one swims, the more unclear and out of sight the shore becomes. Of course, there is also the looming question in any open water swimmers mind, what sea creatures might there be around me? The point is, swimming in open ocean requires accepting that one has no control over the experience. There is an acquiescing to the unknown.
Such is life. There is really so much that is not in our control, such as the past, the future, or what others think of us, and yet that survival DNA built into the human ego will do all it can to scramble for control. This is a natural and normal part of the human experience.
Now let's reimagine. What if the energies we put out to "survive" and "control" were put into what is really within our control? What if each action we took towards creating came from love and trust instead of fear? What if losing sight of the shore and acquiescing to the unknown is the first step towards true freedom?
